A Basic understanding of Dissociative Disorder
Dissociative Disorder, or Dissociation is frequently referred to as Multiple Personalities.
Dissociation is usually from ritual abuse, and sometimes programmed in such a way that personalities become fragmented. The "Fragments" are sometimes called "Altars", or "Personalities". (Ritual Abuse is abuse that is continually repeated).
The Fragmentation can be Severe (in degree of separation or numbers) when:
The ritual abuse is Sexual, Occultic, or even Satanic in nature
It's committed by a close family member or friend
It's allowed to continue over many years.
Fragmentation can be so severe that it severely prohibits normal functioning in society. The Fragmentation is believed to be a God given "Protection" that allows the Core personality to escape the abuse.
The "Personalities" can believe they are protectors of the core person, and take over with such power that many times the core person is totally unaware of what's going on. These Personalities continue to protect the core person throughout their life, believing without their involvement the core person would not survive. The core person is not always "co-cognitive", meaning the core may not even be aware of the "altars".
Trust is a large issue. The fragmented personalities don't usually trust the core person to protect themselves. Because of the abuse that initially caused the problem, the fragmented personalities don't often trust others, (ministers, doctors, etc.), to help them, or the core person.
The Medical Industry frequently diagnoses these people as Schizophrenic, Bi-Polar, Manic Depressant, etc., and commonly treats them with medication to allow the DID person to cope with life. The medication sedates the person, but unfortunately does little toward real healing.
Possible paths to healing
There are several Spiritual theories about how to approach Healing. One theory says the Personalities are all Demonic and must be Cast Out, while other theories bbelieve the goal is for the Personalities to be "Integrated" (meaning all one), or "Synchronized" (meaning co-exist).
We believe the truth is that some are in fact demonic, but many are not, although they certainly may also have demonic elements. If they are not all demonic, and you begin by trying to cast the personalities out as if they are demonic, the trust level needed later could be damaged.
The process can take months to get to a level that we'd call "mostly healed".
We're probably all fragmented to some degree. Neither RTF or deliverance is designed to minister to those with severe fragmentation, but both can dramatically help those with a lesser degree of fragmentation or dissociation.
One of the most balanced experts in the DID field is Dr. Tom Hawkins of Restoration in Christ Ministries. Tom has been involved with thousands of DID cases, and has ministered to thousands of severely abused survivors that can now function normally in life. Tom now serves as a consultant to those ministering to those with DID. We've attended Tom's training where we were both taught and observed his methods with Severely Fragmented people.
Those that just rely on the medical industry may be left with the feeling you are "going crazy" and you only help is in being drugged. Our message for those diagnosed as DID is to know is there is help available.
We have ministered to several people with "moderate" DID indications, and been very successful in providing them a measure of healing that brings hope to the otherwise hopeless.
